Seven buildings would be preserved: a nine-room house built in 1911, three barns, a feed house, a milk house, and a carriage house with attached garage.īut some of the farm buildings, including the house, vacant since 1983, have been vandalized and left open to the weather, resulting in extensive deterioration. A historic designation would not prevent development around the farm buildings. Jon Mattoon, an engineering consultant, said the owners are not opposed to preserving the buildings on the site as long as they don't prevent other development. The 140-acre farm is owned by Maple Valley Land Associates of Tacoma, which plans to build multifamily housing on the property along with commercial and office development. The property which would be preserved includes the 79-year-old farmhouse and farm buildings on 15 acres of open pasture near the intersection of the highway and 140th Way Southeast. Julie Koler, historic preservation officer for the King County Landmarks Commission, said the commission will meet tomorrow to determine whether to schedule a public hearing on the nomination. The farm, visible from the Maple Valley Highway near Renton, was established by R.J. One of South King County's oldest dairy operations, the Elliott farm, has been nominated for preservation as a historic county landmark.
